Media and Stylistic Analysis of Texts of Chosen Public Person

The diploma thesis concerns the discourse of a selected public official (Tomio Okamura) in the media. The thesis contains three parts. The first of them discusses the media in general and also their connection to politics. The second part deals with the discourse style in the media communication sphere and it includes specific language elements that are typical for discourse in this area. The last, third part contains the analysis of three discourse types: radio interview, TV interview and TV debate. In each of these three groups, 4 speeches are analyzed. At the end, the thesis comes to a synthesis of characteristic elements and assessment of how these elements affect the overall style of Tomio Okamura's discourse.

Czech sign language in translations of Czech written formal text

This thesis addresses the issue of thranslating formal texts written in Czech into Czech sign language. The first chapter deals with stylistic factors influencing formal Czech written texts and also the sociocultural situation of the Czech deaf community. The second and third chapters characterize translation of sign language translation and various approaches to the process of translating both spoken and sign languages. The research is a comparative analysis of a sample of formal Czech written texts and their sign language translations. The findings are introduced in the conclusive part of the thesis. Specific features of communication in Spanish social networks

The presented master's thesis is concerned with the specifics of the Spanish language in the sphere of social networks. In the theoretical part, we define key concepts, while the attention is particularly aimed on previously published studies with similar topic, features of Spanish used on social networks and stylistic factors. The second part of the thesis is practical. In this part, we aim to prove that linguistic features typical for the sphere of social networks should not be perceived as mistakes or ignorance of the writers but rather as manifestations of stylistic factors.

Language of the Czech Private Correspondence of the Humanist Period

This work is focused on the language of non-beletristic Czech private correspodence originated between 1611 and 1618 and the aim is to describe the occurence, form and function of linguistic phenomena that refer to higher or lower style. Eight letters from The Archive of Matouš Konečný (deposited in Muzeum Mladoboleslavska) were used for analysis. This manuscripts were transliterated and transcribed in order to gain as much information as possible for futher description. The characteristics of examined linguistic phenomena were taken from diachronic literature first and then compared with analysis results. We also made a conclusion about the influence of stylistic factors (writerʼs competence for creating a cultivated linguistic expression, the relationship between writer and addressee, thematic and functional aspects) on achieved standard of style refinement.
